What is Gemini Guided Learning?
Google launched Guided Learning in August 2025, about a week after OpenAI's Study Mode. It is built on Google's LearnLM work and is designed to behave like a tutor: it checks what you know, walks through the reasoning and asks follow-up questions.
What sets it apart is visuals. Explanations can pull in diagrams, images and relevant YouTube videos, and students can upload textbook pages or class handouts for Gemini to teach from.
Does Gemini Guided Learning give students the answers?
No (in Guided Learning). Guided Learning breaks problems into steps and asks questions instead of jumping to the answer. Standard Gemini still answers directly, and students can switch modes.
Key features
- Step-by-step explanations with probing questions
- Diagrams, images and YouTube videos inside answers
- Upload textbook pages or class files to learn from
- Adapts explanations to the student's level
